Raised in a strict Catholic military family, Rex Rauen recognized early in life that he was gay and that his attraction was primarily toward older men. He reflects on his first great love with Joe, a relationship spanning a 32-year age difference, and the devastating loss and exclusion he experienced after Joe’s sudden death. Years later, coming out brought Rex closer to his family and allowed him to live more openly.
