McKinley Williams
From his early years in Montana to building a life in Los Angeles, McKinley Williams reflects on a journey of identity, ambition, love, and resilience. After attending Occidental College, he built a career in fundraising and workplace diversity while navigating his evolving understanding of sexuality and relationships with both men and women. His path eventually led him to Fred, with whom he built a deeply loving partnership before becoming his full-time caregiver through a devastating degenerative illness. Fred’s death in 2010 brought profound grief and financial hardship, forcing McKinley to rebuild his life once again. Now in his 70s, McKinley is embracing a new chapter through writing, music, and a screenplay inspired by his pioneering Black ancestors in Montana.
