Joe Mendez
Raised in a strict Catholic environment in a Texas border town, Joe Mendez faced the loss of his parents and caregivers early in life, becoming independent at a young age while quietly navigating his sexuality. After briefly considering the priesthood, college brought greater clarity about his identity and eventually the freedom to live openly. His journey took him from Texas to California, through relationships, travel, and decades of change within the LGBTQ+ community. Today, Joe reflects on a life lived on his own terms and the happiness he has found in independence, self-acceptance, and being genuinely content with where life has taken him.
