Dave Egan
For seven years, Dave Egan devoted himself to the ex gay movement, believing his Christian faith could change his sexual orientation. He participated in Homosexuals Anonymous, prayer meetings, exorcisms, and conventions, eventually becoming a spokesperson for a movement he would later reject. On his 30th birthday, Dave publicly announced to a room filled with fellow "ex gay” friends that conversion therapy was a lie and that he was choosing to live openly as a gay man. Years of therapy followed as he worked to undo the psychological damage and rebuild his relationship with himself and his family. Looking back, Dave reflects on the importance of questioning what society prescribes for us and finding the courage to live an authentic, examined life.
