Dan Bolen
After recognizing his attraction to boys at an early age, Dan spent much of his life trying to suppress his identity through achievement, work, and religious devotion. As a Jehovah’s Witness minister and elder for nearly 50 years, he lived according to the expectations of his faith until a profound personal crisis forced him to confront the life he had been hiding. After being disfellowshipped and losing much of his lifelong community, Dan began rebuilding his life and came out as a gay man at age 70. Today, alongside his partner John Preston, he shares a story of resilience and late-life self-discovery through his memoir, The Courage to Be Courageous, and his podcast.
