Trevor Smith
Raised in a devout Mormon community in Idaho, Trevor Smith spent much of his youth struggling to reconcile his sexuality with the teachings of his faith. After being sent home early from an LDS mission, he began questioning beliefs that had caused years of guilt and self-rejection. Coming out in his early 20s brought painful reactions from his family and the loss of lifelong friendships, but it also opened the door to a more authentic life. Trevor eventually found love with his husband, Dave, and a new sense of family and community. Looking back, he encourages others facing religious or family rejection to embrace who they are and recognize that acceptance, belonging, and happiness can exist beyond the world they were taught to fear losing.
