Tom Crowe
Social worker, educator, and longtime LGBTQ+ activist Tom Crowe reflects on a life shaped by faith, social justice, and service to others. Raised in a strict Catholic family, he once considered the priesthood before finding his path in activism, eventually working alongside Harvey Milk during the fight against the Briggs Initiative. During the AIDS crisis, Tom helped establish the Spokane AIDS Network, continuing his work despite threats and intense hostility while also enduring the loss of two partners to AIDS. After decades of advocacy and a 20-year career teaching Social Work at Cal State Long Beach, Tom looks back on the hard-fought progress of the LGBTQ+ community and the importance of protecting that legacy for future generations.
