Steve Boland
From hitchhiking across North America and Europe to living in an experimental desert commune, Steve followed an unconventional path toward understanding himself and eventually embracing life openly as a gay man. After settling in Los Angeles, he built a career working with children, co-parented two children with a longtime partner, and lived through the devastating years of the AIDS epidemic. Later in life, Steve became the owner of a neighborhood coffee shop that served as a welcoming community space. Looking back, he reflects on independence, survival, and the value of creating a life on your own terms.
