Rick Bushnell
For more than three decades, Dr. Rick Bushnell followed the conventional path expected of him, building a family and a successful career as an anesthesiologist while privately struggling with his sexuality. Eventually, he chose to leave his 34 year marriage and come out, later finding love and marrying his husband, Clarence. A medical mission to Tanzania opened another unexpected chapter when Rick formed a lasting father son bond with Hillary, a teenager he met while providing anesthesia for his surgery and whose education he would go on to support through medical school. Looking back, Rick reflects on the personal cost of living in denial and the freedom he found in finally choosing authenticity.
