Mark Lee Goldberg
Living through the height of the AIDS epidemic profoundly shaped both the life and art of Mark Lee Goldberg, a television editor, artist, and long term HIV survivor. After testing positive in the 1980s, Mark became the primary caregiver for his partner, Gary, until Gary’s death from AIDS related complications in 1993. Grief became a creative force, inspiring "Gary’s Greenhouse and Garden", an 18 painting series honoring the plants Gary nurtured during his final months. Mark also endured the deaths of close friends and witnessed the devastating emotional toll the epidemic took on survivors, caregivers, and medical professionals. Decades later, he reflects on a life shaped by survival and loss, finding parallels in his art, where light and shadow coexist. Through grief, Mark has gained a deeper appreciation for beauty, life, and the unexpected years he never thought he would have.
