Frank DeCaro
Raised in a lively Italian-American family in New Jersey, Frank DeCaro embraced his flamboyant personality from an early age. His experience of falling for a high school classmate inspired his memoir, *A Boy Named Phyllis*. Published in 1996, the book emerged during a vibrant period in his life as an openly gay columnist celebrating the humor, freedom, and fabulousness of LGBTQ+ culture. Soon after the book’s release, an unexpected hometown encounter introduced him to writer Jim Colucci. Their relationship grew into an enduring partnership grounded in laughter, mutual support, and complementary strengths. After three decades together, a move to Los Angeles, and marriage on their 15th anniversary, DeCaro reflects on a life filled with creative expression, hard-won authenticity, and the lasting joy of finding a true home with the person he loves.
