Tom Bourdon
Growing up in suburban Massachusetts, Tom Bourdon had few visible LGBTQ role models and struggled for years to understand and accept his identity. A move to Los Angeles and his experience volunteering with children affected by HIV/AIDS became important turning points, eventually leading him to a career supporting and advocating for LGBTQ communities. Along the way, Tom built a lasting marriage with his husband, Jimmy, and together they adopted and are raising their two children, Lukas and Maya. His experiences as a husband, father, educator, and advocate also shaped his doctoral research into the lives of children raised by LGBTQ parents. Looking back on a life that has unfolded alongside decades of profound social change, Tom shares his journey in his book, It Lit A Fire.
