Peter Fitzgerald
From performing in A Chorus Line and on the Radio City stage to building a career behind the camera, Peter Fitzgerald’s life has moved through several distinct chapters of LGBTQ history. After testing HIV positive during the height of the AIDS epidemic, the death of his first love, TJ Meyers, left Peter carrying years of unresolved grief that contributed to a long struggle with alcohol and drug addiction. Recovery and lasting sobriety eventually allowed him to rebuild his life and return to filmmaking, including independent LGBTQ documentaries. Along the way, Peter became deeply involved in the leather community, earning the title of Mr. Los Angeles Leather, and found spiritual connection through the Radical Faeries, where he encountered pioneering activist Harry Hay. Now older, Peter reflects on survival, friendship, intimacy, and aging with a sense of gratitude for the life and community he once feared he might not live long enough to experience.
