Aaron Leventman
Finding his place in theater gave Aaron Leventman an early sense of belonging and a creative world beyond the expectations of everyday life. Growing up in Massachusetts, he gradually discovered a broader LGBTQ history through Vito Russo’s The Celluloid Closet and eventually came out while pursuing his education in theater and film. After moving to New York for graduate studies at Columbia University, the realities of the AIDS epidemic prompted Aaron to volunteer with Gay Men’s Health Crisis, where he helped assemble safer sex kits and unexpectedly found himself appearing on CNN. His experiences with identity, representation, activism, and the arts would follow him into his work as a playwright, actor, and screenwriter.
